Construction of Shin-Kori reactors, units 5 and 6 commenced - the execution plan for the Electric Power Supply Site Development Project of Shin-Kori reactor units 5 and 6 has been approved
 As the execution plan for the Electric Power Supply Site Development Project of Shin-Kori reactor units 5 and 6 has been approved from the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy, its construction work has now begun.
On January 10, there was a previous agreement made on local support project between local residents of the construction site-to-be, Ulju-gun and KHNP. Then Ulju-gun requested the construction license of Shin-Kori reactor units 5 and 6 to MOTIE on January 14 with an approval from the township council. According to this request, MOTIE said, ¡°Based on the Electric Power Supply Site Development Promotion Act, the construction project of Shin-Kori reactor units 5 and 6 will be approved with an agreement between 11 central administration organizations and local government, Ulju-gun, Ulsan. After thorough review by Electric Power Supply Site Development Promotion Committee on January 23, it will be finally approved. ¡±
It will take six years and five months, from this September to December 2020, to complete the construction of Shin-Kori PLWR (pressurized light water reactor) units 5 and 6 with a capacity 1,400MW, taking 2.75 million square meters of area near the existing Shin-Kori reactor units 3 and 4. Also, 7,616.8 billion won of construction cost in total will be put into this mega-project.
As this project has now commenced, it is expected to not only contribute to create job opportunities but also to vitalize stagnant regional economy.
