The 18th Korea-France Joint Coordinating Committee on Nuclear Energy held in Seoul
| The 18th Korea-France Joint Coordinating Committee on Nuclear Energy was held in Seoul, Korea from April 15 to 16. The two sides discussed ways to improve cooperation on the nuclear energy, examined the performance on joint research projects and deliberated ways to improve the cooperation on research field at the meeting. |

The two countries agreed to strengthen technical cooperation including applying core technology to the next generation reactor such as sodium-cooled reactor and high temperature gas reactor and technology development project to reduce radioactive waste.
Korea proposed three new projects which include cooperation on simulating radiation damage environments, LWR cores severe accident analysis and interactive simulation tools for nuclear process. Availing this change, Korea will proceed with taking France's advanced simulation technology including Technical cooperation on ITER(International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) which is built in France.
Kim Young-Shik, director general of Atomic Energy Bureau, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) said "France is a provider of Ulchin unit 1 and 2, and is an important partner of nuclear energy cooperation. I believe Korea and France both can benefit from well-made combination of two countries' strong technology. |

| The Korea-France Joint Coordinating Committee on Nuclear Energy is held on the base of Korea-France Nuclear Cooperation Agreement made in 1981 and Agreement on establishing and operating Joint Coordinating Committee on Nuclear Energy between Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) and Commissariat a I'Energie Atomique (CEA). The 19th meeting will be held in the second half of 2009 in France. |
