|KONICOF was established in January 2004 with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Republic of Korea, with the background of;
The importance and the role of nuclear energy will be ever increasing, as its characteristics of sustainability and cleanliness are distinguished from those of other energy resources. However, because of the strict international regulation system imposed on the nuclear field, it is imperative that the government, instead of civilians, take an active role and provide full support for the expansion of international cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.
Current weight of Korea as one of the advanced counties in the field of nuclear energy impels Korea to switch its role from the beneficiary to the renderer of the technology. And at the same time, there is a strong need to set up a firm foundation and strong support system for the expansion of export in the field of nuclear energy because of the complicated procedures arising from the strict regulation system.
